A comparison of techniques Negative Casting: Foam compared with plaster of Paris Richard Berent, DPM, FACFAOM Introduction: This study was undertaken to determine whether there was a difference in clinical outcomes related type of negative molding technique to manufacture functional foot orthoses. Material and Methods: A total of 38 patients were enrolled in the study. All patients had symptoms associated down of the lower limbs function abnormality as determined by assessing the end of the march. At the time of the initial visit, each patient signed a consent form and completed the superior data sheet that includes personal information and the amount of pain at each end (patients had to round the amount of pain on a scale of 0-10, with 0 being no pain and 10 being the worst pain ever felt). Each participant was asked to use one of the four descriptive terms (very comfortable, comfortable, somewhat uncomfortable or very uncomfortable) to describe the level of comfort of five different parties in each foot orthoses for the heel, medial arch, lateral arch in the middle of the brace and the distal edge. Patients were sent home with standard break in the form of functional foot orthoses and returned to the clinic at intervals of 2 weeks and 4 weeks after the bracing dispensal. At each visit follow-up, patients were asked to complete a data measuring the level of symptoms and level of comfort of the brace. The data was then compiled and saved in a spreadsheet format and conduct the study, the laboratory technician was contacted to identify patients were the study group, safety foam or plaster of Paris casting technique. Results: Data were collected and the two study groups separated by casting technique. An independent investigator (not podiatrist) was contacted and asked to analyze the data to answer the following questions: 1. Is it negative mold technology (foam vs. plaster) make a difference the ability of the orthosis to reduce the symptoms? 2. It is the negative molding technique (foam vs. plaster) make a difference in the comfort of the brace for the patient feel? The data were analyzed in a variety methods such as the mean reduction in pain, Fisher's exact test and chi-square with T-tests. A simple comparison between the average reduction in pain after four weeks of treatment indicates that the orthopedic plaster of Paris splints were reduced by an average of 82.43% of pain compared with 61.14% reduction in pain with orthotics gray foam box, with a significance level of p
